May 2017

Dear Franzen Families,

We have officially reached the last month from our 2016-2017 school year. We at Franzen appreciate all of your support at our celebration of learning which was held on April 28th. Your support on this evening, and throughout the year, was very evident. A very quick thank you to everyone who volunteered their time. Our ice cream social, outdoor education raffle, and book fair do not run themselves. Thank you to everyone who helped make these special events run smoothly. We couldn’t do it without you!

This last month of the year will bring two last weeks of assessments. May 8th-May 19th students will take spring iReady and AIMSweb assessments. This will be the final of three benchmarks to chart student progress throughout our year. We look forward to showcasing these results.
May will be especially busy for our 5th grade families. Incredibly fitting because I prefer to see all of them and all of you prior to them moving on to Peacock and becoming sixth graders. While most of the dates are outlined below here is a sampling: May 9(7pm)-beginning band concert at Peacock, May 11(7pm)- 5th grade musical at Peacock, May 12(during school day) 5th grade village tour, May 17(7pm) 5th grade parent orientation at Peacock, May 18(during school day) 5th grade service worker bowling party, May 30 (9am) DARE graduation at Franzen. These 5th grade students have accomplished a lot over their last three years with us and we look forward to helping them celebrate.

One last reminder that our school will be holding its annual Field Day on May 30th from 12:20-2:20pm (rain date: May 31st at the same time). We would appreciate as many volunteers as possible. A form went home from Mrs. Engel asking for volunteers. Please contact the school if interesting in helping. We appreciate your support.

Finally, it is with great appreciation that I formally thank three parents who have given a lot of their time to our school district. Last month the Itasca Parent Teacher Organization saw three parents (Lisa Ciccia, Anita DeValk, and Sherri Wolfe) serve their final meeting. While MANY have supported it is important to note that these three have supervised many events and committees while guiding the organization to a very healthy spot. These ladies have seen $241,000 raised over the last five years while overseeing assemblies, dances, book fairs and other events for the children of Itasca 10. This is simply extraordinary and we are very thankful for their support. Please take a moment to thank them if you see them. In addition, we look forward to many volunteers over the next few years. Please reach out if you would like more information or visit our website, www.itasca10.org.

Best summer wishes,

Jason R. Taylor
