How did Elmer H. Franzen Intermediate School get its name?
Elmer H. Franzen (1891 –
1978) was an active member of the community. He was a member of the
Itasca Fire Department and participated in a number of community music
groups. He was the President of the Itasca State Bank but is perhaps
best known for being a school board member from 1933-1946. He headed the
three man school board for seven years and was the first president of
the seven member school board. In 1964, the school board named the new
elementary school to honor him for his unselfish commitment and
dedication to the children of Itasca.
A portrait of Elmer H. Franzen and a plaque in his honor are
located in the main hallway of Elmer H. Franzen Intermediate School.
